I have a quote on a post-it note posted on my desktop computer screen
“If you don’t move forward, you’re settling for where you are”
I’m not sure where I picked it up or who wrote it (If you know please drop me a comment below), but it continues to resonate with me each day and maybe it will for you as well.
It’s really easy in life to just want to settle, to stay comfortable. It can be overwhelming and scary to try new things, to do things differently. But the thing is when we stay where we’re at when we’re not moving forward, when we say “tomorrow” or “one day” what we are really saying is I’m not willing to honor my dreams, to have a better life.
What I also love about this quote is that it’s saying I only have to “move forward”, it gives me permission to take baby steps to not have it all figured out, to not get overwhelmed with how I’m getting from where I am to where I want to be. All I need to do is move forward, even one step is moving forward and not settling for where I am.
I can’t count the number of times I have been overwhelmed with trying to change my diet and lifestyle, but somehow I began to just simply move forward with one step at a time, one thing at a time. To make shifts from drinking soda all day to bringing other beverages into my diet to drinking primarily water, tea, and fresh juice all day. To getting just a little more sleep each night and leaving work just a little bit earlier each day.
It’s all about just taking just even one step forward and knowing that one step is closer to my goals than I was before.
